CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Music Settlement of University Circle, an organization that enriches lives through music therapy, has received a large gift and, thus, a chair endowment.
The $25,000 gift from Forest City Enterprises endows the Forest City Enterprises Chair of Music Therapy for 2013-14.
The endowment was named in honor of Geralyn Presti, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of Forest City Enterprises Inc. Presti is also a former music therapist at the Music Settlement and currently serves as chair of the organization's board of directors.
"The Music Settlement's deep history of music therapy made our company's decision to endow the Chair a very satisfying one," said Presti. "We respect their leadership, clinical expertise and history of successful research initiatives."
The Center of Music Therapy at The Music Settlement is the oldest and largest such therapy program in Ohio, according to a settlement press release.
Music therapists there work with clients of all ages who have autism spectrum disorders or other special needs, are in hospice or palliative-care programs, or are served by anchor partners including the Salvation Army Harbor Light Complex, the United Cerebral Palsy Association and the Euclid School District.
The Music Settlement currently has about 100 music therapy clients who receive services [at their Univeristy Circle location] ranging from one-on-one attention to performing in ensembles.
