Spring is starting to feel like it's getting here - FINALLY! We are bound to our homes, but farms around the state and country are moving along as always, welcoming new life and producing the food many of us have filling our refrigerators.
A fun way to introduce food origins, or where the food comes from, is to ask your child. The store or market is the final step before reaching our homes (a common first answer to "where do you think the food came from?"), but we're looking to introduce the longer food chain. First, the food starts on a farm, then it is picked, harvest, milked, or butchered for consumption by people all around the world.
If you're vegan or vegetarian, you can still discuss the food chain and where different foods come from, but use your own judgment for introducing the ideas of meat and other products from animals.
