Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra Chamber Music Extension @ BOP STOP
When May 20, 2018, 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Where: BOP STOP
The Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra Chamber Music Extension highlights NOYO's young musicians’ expertise in a more intimate context than NOYO’s large-ensemble programs. Accomplished high school instrumentalists from Sandusky to Mentor rehearse Baroque, Classical, and Romantic chamber repertoire with Oberlin Conservatory coaches each week in April and May; this afternoon performance at the BOP STOP represents the culmination of their work. Come hear the expressive playing, sensitive listening, and ensemble teamwork that chamber music is all about!
The NOYO Lab Group is a collaborative composition ensemble that meets weekly during NOYO’s concert season. Rather than rehearse and perform existing repertoire, Lab Group starts each season with a blank slate and dedicates their rehearsal time to developing new work together—bringing each member’s individual talents and inclinations to bear on the composition of a program-length piece. This evening, Lab Group will perform (Dis)connected, a staged work that explores the consequences of 24/7 internet access, the ubiquity of smartphones, and the challenge of remaining present in an increasingly fragmented world.
There will be an intermission between our chamber music ensembles and Lab Group. Admission is free, but donations are welcome!
