Musical Mix and Mingle Summer Chamber Music Course with the Cavani String Quartet

Thursdays -- July 2nd, July 9th, July 16th & July 23rd

When: Jul 02, 2020 through July 23, 7:00pm - 8:00pm

Join us online this summer for a four-part seminar series on collaboration, open to musicians of all ages and skill levels.

This four-part seminar is based on the Cavani String Quartet’s soon-to-be published book, The Art of Collaboration: A Creative Resource for Chamber Music Rehearsal Techniques and Musical Team Building (D. Cotter-Lockard, A. Fullard, co-authors). Each session will be led by a different Quartet member, and the Quartet will be on hand to demonstrate and illuminate points.

Topics will include:

  • Ready, Set, Play!
Individual preparation and practice techniques: a simple and organized approach to preparation for your first rehearsal!
  • Have Fun with Your Score
Understanding how your part relates to the others. We will explore form and structure, and even listen to some of our favorite recordings!
  • Exploring the Composer’s World
We will take a close look at the composer from the perspective of Visual Art, Literature, Science, Political and Social movements relating to the generation or time period in which they lived.
  • Collaboration Basics
Guidance on how to communicate with your ensemble members in a variety of positive and supportive ways, by implementing rehearsal technique problem solvers. Create a working atmosphere for your groups which enables productivity and inspiring dialogue. Featuring a Cavani open rehearsal demonstration

Participants must have the following technological capabilities:

  • A laptop, tablet, or desktop that has a reliable internet connection (ethernet connection recommended)
  • Access to the video platform Zoom (Camp Director will specify if other platforms are necessary prior to the start of camp.)
