Ed Ridley, jazz pianist, educator, producer, arranger and composer, is a standard feature at The Bop Stop @ The Music Settlement. When he plays jazz, he effortlessly improvises and creates, and you will undoubtedly want to close your eyes and listen to his incredibly lyrical style. With gospel roots, a longstanding involvement in musical theater, his love of jazz, teaching and composing, Ed not only enhances any vocalist, but adds his own sparkle to beloved melodies. He is a vital cog in many Cleveland bands.
Jeff Slater, bassist (electric and upright), earned his bachelor’s degree of music in music theory and French horn at Baldwin-Wallace University, prior to master’s work in classical and jazz music theory at the University of Wisconsin, at Madison and Truman State University. He is well versed in all styles of jazz, R & B, rock, and world music, and is a devotee of the Bill Evans catalog. An incredibly popular bassist, he performs with many ensembles in the NE Ohio area, such as the Cliff Habian Trio, Eric Everett Jazz, EEJ Fireland Trio, to name but a few.
Ricky Exton, drummer, percussionist, educator, Berklee graduate, first worked with Carol Leslie in his own studio, “Fiona’s Den,” where they performed a livestream. Ricky has an extensive repertoire, and as such, works with numerous top-level players in the area, from big bands to trios. He has devoted energy to keeping music playing during the pandemic, for which local musicians are truly appreciative! His sensitivity to vocals and other instruments is exemplary. He will surely be the keystone for this livestream!
