CMT Workshop: The Therapeutic Function of Music (TFM) Plan for Professionals
Two-Day Professional Workshop for Music Therapists
When: Aug 13, 2021 through August 14, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Where: BOP STOP
The Therapeutic Function of Music (TFM) Plan for Professionals
Music is a complex intervention strategy. Music therapists recognize the importance of the characteristics of music elements for effective therapeutic outcomes, however, greater clarity for the role of those music elements in therapeutic outcomes is needed. Currently, few strategies exist to support the description of the musical elements in the development of treatment interventions.
This workshop will clarify the use of the Therapeutic Function of Music (TFM) Plan to support intentional application of the music elements for therapeutic outcomes and participants will practice applying the TFM Plan to their clinical situations, as well as identify a treatment goal.
Participants will also recognize how the TFM Plan can support treatment fidelity and communication with clients, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues. An opportunity to analyze and discuss the TFM Plan in music therapy practice will conclude the workshop. Participants should read the supporting article (Hanson-Abromeit, 2015) and identify a focused outcome/goal central to their music therapy practice.
