Violist Eva Mondragón has cultivated an engaging and diverse career as a music collaborator and educator. Originally beginning her classical musical studies on violin, Eva switched to viola in high school, and then pursued her undergraduate studies at the Peabody Conservatory under the guidance of Victoria Chiang. After completing her undergraduate degree, Eva began her Master of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Cleveland Orchestra violist Mark Jackobs. It was during this time that Eva discovered her passion for teaching and working with the next generation of musicians, which ultimately inspired her to pursue her Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Maryland in College Park. While at UMD, Eva collaborated with UMD faculty and guest artists in community engagement concerts, performing traditional and contemporary works in new and creative ways. She also pursued her pedagogical interests, and received training and credentialing in Suzuki violin and participated in a variety of workshops and seminars, such as the Karen Tuttle Workshop at the University of Delaware.

After completing her DMA, Eva happily returned back to the Northeast Ohio area. As an active freelancing musician, Eva frequently performs with the Akron, Canton, Ashland and Firelands Symphony Orchestras, as well as continuing to perform as the Assistant Principal in the New Orchestra of Washington, based in Washington DC. Eva has attended the ENCORE School for Strings, the Aspen Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, in addition to performing in the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Verbier, Switzerland, and the Grant Park Festival Orchestra as a member of the Project Inclusion string quartet.

Currently, Eva lives in Akron where she enjoys hiking, biking, cooking, and spending time with her husband and cat.
