Title: Marketing and Social Media Intern

Reports to: The Music Settlement’s Marketing Department

Overview:

The Music Settlement is seeking a Marketing and Social Media intern studying or working toward a career in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications or a relevant field. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual looking to learn and gain marketing experience by assisting with social media content creation and management, website design and editing, graphic design, photography and videography. The paid summer internship position will be a part-time opportunity, estimated for approximately 20 hours per week at The Music Settlement’s University Circle campus.

Primary Purpose: The Marketing and Social Media Intern will provide overall administrative, marketing communications and graphic design support to the Marketing and Advancement Departments. Primarily responsible for creating and scheduling weekly social media content. Assists in the process of developing cohesive and high-quality print and digital marketing materials that represent The Music Settlement and its three centers – Music, Early Childhood and Music Therapy.

Essential Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Design/Branding
    • Create visual assets for The Music Settlement social channels. Includes but is not limited to: Facebook banners, Instagram graphics and email graphics
    • Conceptualize and produce print and digital collateral including: flyers, brochures, posters, event signage, education and event collateral, invitations, digital display advertising and print advertisements
    • Organize and maintain digital assets, templates, logos, brand identities, and marketing collateral
    • Help sustain TMS’s visual brand by upholding TMS branding guidelines across multiple print and digital platforms
  • Social Media
    • Assist in photo/video capture and post-production editing
    • General content creation and management of the TMS social accounts including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube
    • Create and schedule social media content in advance
    • Pull social media reporting and account insights including reach, impressions and engagement
    • Work collaboratively to create monthly reports on social media performance
  • Communications
    • Write/edit copy for various materials such as internal and external newsletters, website updates and social media posts
    • Build relationships with internal staff members and directors to determine needs and desired outcomes
  • Project Management
    • Assist in the planning, preparation and execution of organization-wide and Center-specific events including summer camps, specialty concerts and community awareness outreach
    • Track project performance, specifically analyzing successes and shortcomings to plan short-term and long-term goals
    • Work collaboratively with each Center to plan coordination of capturing private and group lessons, preschool and kindergarten programs, and summer camp footage

Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate working toward a career in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications or a relevant field. Must be detail-oriented with a mindset that serves the need to manage multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish. Ideal candidates will have the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Candidate must be skilled in creative layout and design. Candidate should be creative, take initiative, have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, have excellent organizational and project management skills, and be a strong team player. Successful candidates will participate as an active and valued team member by attending TMS events, summer camps and performances to provide support as needed. Must personally adhere to all established personnel policies and practices of The Music Settlement.

Experience:

  • General knowledge of visual marketing including the ability to operate software such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud
  • General understanding running social media pages
