Born into a musical family in Cleveland Heights, Helen Hawersaat is now an active teacher and freelance performer throughout the Cleveland area. Formerly a Suzuki cello teacher at the Toledo Symphony School of Music, she now teaches in two capacities with The Music Settlement: both as a cello teacher, and as a strings instructor in the school’s outreach programs.

Helen graduated with high honors from the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at the University of Michigan, where she studied cello with Richard Aaron. She has also completed long term Suzuki cello teacher training in Units 1-4 with Andrea Yun (at the University of Michigan) and Units 5-10 with Abbey Hansen (at the Cleveland Institute of Music). Helen is a lover of baroque music, and frequently performed on baroque cello and gamba during her time in Ann Arbor, appearing regularly alongside SMTD faculty members, such as Joseph Gascho, Joseph Gramley, Amy Porter, Aaron Berofsky, and David Daniels.
