Matthew earned his Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and Master of Nonprofit Organization from CWRU’s Weatherhead School of Management. For the past twenty years he has been a freelance bassist, entrepreneur, manager of performing groups, and has provided leadership to the arts-based small business and nonprofit community.
Previously, he served as Assistant Director of Education at Beck Center for the Arts; Director of the COSE Arts Network; and Associate Director of Roots of American Music. Matthew served on the Board of Trustees of Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, one of the nation's leading public arts funding agencies, from 2010 to 2016.
As a musician, Matthew is interested in many different styles and genres of music, with a focus on performing jazz, Afro-Cuban, rock, Americana/traditional, bluegrass, and neo-folk music across NE Ohio and beyond.
