Rock & Pop Academy
Ages: 10 - 18
Session Length: 15 Weeks
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and Up
The Rock & Pop Academy is a modern ensemble that encompasses a wide variety of styles and eras of popular music.
Each semester ends with a high-energy performance of the music worked on in the weekly rehearsals. Students will not only increase their confidence and musicianship, but will also learn how songs are constructed, the music theory that makes the songs work, and the history behind the music. Much of the music is learned by ear: students are not required to know how to read music to join, but emphasis will be put on learning to read music and becoming more knowledgeable young musicians.
Students will be placed in a group based on their age and experience. Ensembles will rehearse at 12:45 pm and 2:30 pm. (An 11:00 am ensemble will be added if necessary.)
Prerequisites: Must have your own instrument and be able to tune it. Guitarists (electric guitars preferred) must know open chords. Keyboard players should know major and minor root position chords. Drummers and bass players should know basic grooves.

Students who have previously participated in this ensemble do not need to complete an audition and are welcome to register at this time. Click the "Enroll" button below to proceed.

Luke Pernici is a local musician who has played in a variety of bands in and around Cleveland, including ET King and the Determination, Liz Bullock and the Tremonts, GROUP and others. While his primary instrument is guitar, he also plays bass, piano, drums, ukulele, and has been known to sing (sometimes). He has taught a variety of students over the seven years he's been active in the music scene, and utilizes these skills to give students an enjoyable, informative experience. He caters his lessons to the way a student learns best, and tries to indulge their tastes, while also injecting music that he thinks is important.
