In addition to her teaching responsibilities at The Music Settlment, Ida Mercer is also the cellist for the Almeda Trio. A founding member of the Cleveland Cello Society, Ida serves as its Program Chairperson. She also is a cellist in the Opera Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Pops.
For the past 16 years, Ida has spent the month of August playing in the Britt Classical Festival Orchestra in Jacksonville, Oregon. In 2002, the Ohio String Teacher's Association named her "Studio Teacher of the Year." From 1980-82, Ida taught cello and music theory at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. An enthusiastic gardener, quilter, and seamstress, Ida resides in Shaker Heights with her husband Glenn, an automotive industry analyst, and their four children.
