Melanie Emig began studying Suzuki piano at the age of three. Raised in a musical family, she realized at an early age that music was her life's passion. In high school, she attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute's young artist program, was selected to participate in the PMEA All State Orchestra, and won numerous local and regional awards on flute and voice. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she studied Vocal Performance and Opera Theater.
Melanie is particularly interested in both Early and New Music, and has sought out opportunities in these areas, including the Wesley Balk Opera / Music Theater Institute and the Contemporary Opera Lab in Winnipeg, MB.
In addition to her performing credits, she currently maintains a studio of approximately 20 Suzuki piano students. She also instructs the Musicianship and Intro to Suzuki classes as part of the Suzuki program at The Music Settlement.
