Christopher P. Brandt, MD

Dr. Brandt is a native of Cleveland Heights and attended Case Western Reserve University for both his undergraduate and MD degrees. He completed a general surgery residency at the UH/VA/Metro program from 1984 to 1989. He joined the faculty at MetroHealth in 1989 and has served there continuously since that time. His primary clinical interests are in minimally invasive, gastrointestinal and burn surgery and he is currently Associate Director of the MetroHealth Comprehensive Burn Care Center.

Dr. Brandt is active in a number of regional and national surgical organizations and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association for Surgical Education. He has received teaching awards from the CWRU Department of Surgery, CWRU School of Medicine, and the Association for Surgical Education. He also serves as a board member of the MetroHealth Foundation and the River Valley Ringers, a community handbell choir.

He and his wife Beth Sersig reside in Cleveland Heights. Their children, Anna, Eric and Andrew, have all previously participated in programs at The Music Settlement.

Daryl currently serves on the Advisory Boards of The First Tee of Cleveland and the Honduran Children’s Rescue Fund, the Athletic Visiting Committee at Cleveland State University, the AERB Athletic Board at Notre Dame College and is a committee member of the Bill Conway Charity Golf Classic. He is a past member of the Advisory Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Additionally, he and his wife, Jenniffer, established and support the Geauga Youth Activities Fund and have opened their home and provided resources to children in need within the Geauga County Foster Care system. Together, they have received recognition by Geauga County as Foster Parents of the Year, and by the Cleveland Foundation as recipients of its Philanthropic Service Award. In 2014, the Deckard Family was privileged to join forces with Frank and Barbara Sullivan to establish the Sullivan-Deckard Opportunity Scholars Program. Dr. Howard J. Berusch, DDS, is a native of Cleveland and attended Ohio State University for his undergraduate and DDS degrees, graduating cum laude. From 1959-1961, he completed his general dentistry program with the U.S. Air Force in St. Louis, Missouri. When he returned to Cleveland in 1962, he established his private family dentistry practice in Willoughby. In 2001, he sold his practice and continued part-time until retiring in 2009. Dr. Berusch continued to keep busy, working for Medicaid in Concord, Ohio. Currently, he is a volunteer for SCORE, a prestigious non-profit organization that is committed to fostering and educating the small business community throughout America.

Robert Conrad is the co-founder and president of WCLV-FM, Cleveland’s 24-hour-a-day classical music station. Conrad is a graduate of Northwestern University and the recipient of honorary doctorates from CIM, Baldwin Wallace University and Oberlin College.

He has hosted the broadcasts of The Cleveland Orchestra since 1965, which means he has likely been the commentator for an orchestra broadcast series longer than anyone else in the history of American radio. Conrad has appeared as narrator with The Cleveland Orchestra, Blossom Concert Band, Akron Symphony, Ashland Symphony and CIM Orchestra, among others.

Previously, Conrad was program manager for WDTM, Detroit; operations manager for WFMT, Chicago; and program director of WEAW AM/FM, Evanston, Illinois. In 1982, Conrad was named Classical Program Director of the Year by Billboard magazine.

He was named to the City Club Hall of Fame in 2000, received the Award of Achievement from the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters in 2001 and has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the March of Dimes AIR Awards in 2001 and the Association of Music Personnel in Public Radio in 2009. Ms. Hughes is a partner and Co-Chair in the litigation group of law firm Calfee Halter & Griswold LLP, where her focus is on complex commercial litigation, antitrust and trade regulation and counseling, and municipal civil rights defense. She handles all aspects of litigation, including pretrial discovery, depositions, trial in both Ohio and federal courts, and appellate briefing and argument in the Ohio and federal Courts of Appeals.

Ms. Hughes’ work in the area of antitrust and trade regulation has included both litigation and client counseling on the Sherman Act and Robinson-Patman Act, as well as state dealer protection statutes. She regularly advises clients with respect to the antitrust risks associated with minimum resale or advertised pricing programs. She advises clients regarding the antitrust implications of potential mergers or acquisitions, including with respect to pre-merger notification filings pursuant to the Hart Scott Rodino Act, and has successfully defended preliminary Department of Justice investigations of acquisitions. She has extensive experience in assisting clients in developing and implementing antitrust compliance programs, including training of executives and employees. Her experience includes serving as second-chair trial counsel in a three-month antitrust trial involving an alleged Sherman Act conspiracy.

Ms. Hughes served as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aldrich of the Northern District of Ohio before joining Calfee in 1994. In 1999, she was awarded a Pegasus Scholarship by the American Inns of Court and spent three months at the Inns of Court in London, England. In 2002, she was named as a fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation. Ms. Hughes became a partner at Calfee in 2003. René Polin has more than 20 years’ experience in product design and development. He is the president and founder of Balance Product Development, Inc. – a full-service design consulting firm in Cleveland, OH. He founded Balance with no external investment, and has grown the consulting company to $1.4 million in annual revenue. Balance serves clients all around the U.S., and continues to hire local university graduates to retain talent and help keep the region strong and competitive.

He is responsible for hundreds of successful products from baby toys to medical devices. If you’ve withdrawn money from your local ATM, bathed your infant in a baby bathtub, hitched up your boat trailer, or crushed ice in your kitchen blender, there’s a good chance you’ve used something René and his team have worked on. His widely-varied experience includes hundreds of different clients--Diebold, Fisher-Price, Sherwin-Williams, Lowe’s, Cleveland Clinic Innovations, Moen, and Discover Financial Services to name a few.

His collaborations with these clients have resulted in successful lines of product sold in some of the largest retail chains in the U.S. This includes the first-ever line of U.S. Hispanic market baby toys that were sold through Wal-Mart and Kohl’s, the worlds-first keychain credit card with no straight edges for Discover Financial Services, and a line of pet products for a start-up company which led to its successful sale to a larger market competitor.

His busy schedule does not stop him from dedicating his time to multiple boards and non-profits. He is currently a Director at The Cleveland Institute of Art and Chagrin Arts. He contributes to and supports First Robotics clubs at St. Ignatius High School and Hathaway Brown School, Special Olympics, and Esperanza scholarships for Hispanic youth in Cleveland.

He attended The City College of The City University of New York and earned an executive certificate in financial planning from John Carroll University. In addition, he holds the Wealth Management Specialist designation and is a member of the Financial Planning Association.

An active member of the business and civic community, he is a board member of The Jewish National Fund and an advisor to The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. He has lectured on behalf of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, The Academy of Medicine of Cleveland, the Council of Smaller Enterprises, and numerous other organizations.

Mr. Schwartz had classical music training in piano, saxophone, clarinet and music therapy at New York City’s Third Street Music School Settlement, and also holds degrees in music from The City College of The City University of New York, where he co-founded the CCNY Jazz Orchestra. He has served as counsel in various capacities for an extensive cross-section of client projects including office and medical buildings and campuses, warehouses, condominiums and planned unit developments, marinas, hospital buildings, apartment buildings and warehouse/office-to-apartment conversions, affordable low-income housing, residential subdivisions, industrial parks, live performance theaters, hotels and motor inns, and shopping centers. He has acted as counsel to local and national lenders in negotiating and documenting construction and permanent loans, and has negotiated leases of all types (shopping center, office industrial) for both landlords and tenants, including ground leases, build-to-suit and complex construction/work letter situations.
