BEREA, Ohio -- Nathan Kruse will conduct the Symphony West Orchestra for its spring concert May 15, but his musical career has more basic roots.
His father played cornet in high school and Kruse picked up the trumpet in sixth grade. Later, he added the viola when he began teaching at The Music Settlement and wanted to brush up on string technique.
“I wanted to be a better teacher and conductor for the group,” he said. “But I’m a trumpet player by trade.”
