The Settlement Singers is a co-ed ensemble for adults interested in expressing themselves through music.
The Settlement Singers is a co-ed ensemble for adults interested in expressing themselves through music. Designed to foster a creative and social experience, participants will practice breathing and vocal techniques, gain performance skills, learn to read rhythms and pitch patterns, and memorize text and music. Each semester course will culminate in a celebratory performance for friends, family, and the community.
This course caters to those nearing or at retirement age, but all adults are welcome to participate.
If this is your first enrollment of the school year in the Center for Music (September – June), a non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of enrollment ($35 for a single registrant, with a cap of $50 per family).

Mezzo-soprano Kim Lauritsen frequently appears with The Cleveland Orchestra, most recently as soloist in The Lord of the Rings Symphony at the Blossom Music Center under the direction of the composer Howard Shore, and at Severence Hall in Debussys Le Martyre de Saint Sebastien under the baton of Matthias Pintscher. She has performed lead roles with Opera per tutti, Lyric Opera Cleveland, Opera Cleveland on Tour, CIM Opera Theater, the Janiec Opera Company, and UNL's Opera Theater. A champion of new music, Ms. Lauritsen recently debuted roles in Jim Harris and Mark Hayes' new musical "Civil War Voices", Monica Houghton's opera "The Big Bonanza", and Randall Eng's opera "Florida".
Ms. Lauritsen performs with the Opera Cleveland Chorus, is Music Director of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and teaches voice, violin, and theory at The Music Settlement. She is the recipient of the Boris Goldovsky Prize in Opera, the Vassos Prize in Art Song, a Special Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and is a student of George Vassos.
Music enriches our lives artistically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Music spans all ages and social divides and brings us together in community to create something beautiful and uplifting. Music can even heal a broken heart.
