Start your child on the path to lifelong musicianship!
Designed for children ages 4-6, our Intro to Suzuki course is both a parent education and musical enrichment course. This course will answer any questions you have about becoming a Suzuki parent and serves as a prerequisite for Suzuki instruction at TMS.
Intro to Suzuki includes fun musical activities for parents and students, demonstrations of instruments offered in the Suzuki Program, and parent discussions about the Suzuki philosophy. After completion of this course and required observations, students will be assigned to an Instructor. Due to the popularity of the program, some students may have to be wait-listed.
Intro to Suzuki is also available privately for older students or those unavailable to meet during this class time. For more information about private sessions, please contact Suzuki@TheMusicSettlement.org

Melanie Emig began studying Suzuki piano at the age of three. Raised in a musical family, she realized at an early age that music was her life's passion. In high school, she attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute's young artist program, was selected to participate in the PMEA All State Orchestra, and won numerous local and regional awards on flute and voice. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she studied Vocal Performance and Opera Theater.
Melanie is particularly interested in both Early and New Music, and has sought out opportunities in these areas, including the Wesley Balk Opera / Music Theater Institute and the Contemporary Opera Lab in Winnipeg, MB.
In addition to her performing credits, she currently maintains a studio of approximately 20 Suzuki piano students. She also instructs the Musicianship and Intro to Suzuki classes as part of the Suzuki program at The Music Settlement.
