Bass Boot Camp

Where: Ohio City
Bass Boot Camp is an intensive 2 day workshop for electric bass and double bass. Students will be working on variety of material, from technique and etudes, to harmonic material and genre-based grooves. At the completion of the bootcamp, each bass player will have a better understanding of their instrument and overall musicianship.

Beginning Chamber Music Camp (Ohio City)

Where: Ohio City
Beginning Chamber Music Camp is designed to provide beginning and intermediate students the opportunity to work together in small ensembles to learn how to prepare and perform chamber music. Students work together in different size small groups to prepare a variety of types of music for a performance on the last day of camp. Along the way, students will build communication skills, confidence in performing independent parts, and strengthen overall musical skills. Beginning Chamber Music Camp is a great way to experience music making with others outside of school band or orchestra. It also can be helpful for students who may wish to participate in OMEA Solo and Ensemble in the future. The types and sizes of the ensembles will vary depending on registration. Skill level: Students who have been playing their instrument for at least one year and who are new to playing in small groups or have only limited experience with Chamber music. Students should be able to play at least three major scales and be comfortable sightreading music with at least eighth notes. Broadway Basics Voice Camp

Where: University Circle
Explore Broadway repertoire, as well as popular and jazz vocal harmonies, in a tight-knit group to polish your singing, dancing, and acting skills. We will focus on background vocals, blending techniques, harmonizing, and more. Campers will also work on solo pieces in a master class and collaborate with other campers to prepare an ensemble piece for the final concert. Camp Create (9am-3pm)

Led by TMS EC Drama Specialist Mr. C. Formerly known as Music Builders, is a nurturing and engaging introductory arts camp filled with fun and learning. This camp will foster creativity, confidence and caring by combining theater, dance and music (vocal/instrumental). Campers will collaborate with other cast members and instructors, using the various art forms to create an original presentation to be performed on the final day of camp. PreRegistration for Before &Aftercare are preferred to allow for appropriate staffing. Drop-In attendance will be based on space available. Daily Drop-In charge is paid on day of use. Camp Create - After Care (3-5pm)

Where: University Circle
For parents unable to pick up their child from Camp Create at 3:00 p.m., The Music Settlement offers childcare between the hours of 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Aftercare is available for the entire camp session (advance reservations required), or for $15.00 a day on an as-needed basis. PreRegistration for Before &Aftercare are preferred to allow for appropriate staffing. Drop-In attendance will be based on space available. Daily Drop-In charge is paid on day of use. *Please note: this course (9528) is for the After Care option ONLY (3-5pm). To participate in this course, you must also enroll in Camp Create (9am-3pm).

Camp Create - Before Care (8-9am)

Where: University Circle
Parents may drop off their child for Camp Create before 9am using Before Care. Childcare for campers is offered between 8-9am daily for $10.00 on an as-needed basis. To participate in this program, you must also enroll in Camp Create. PreRegistration for Before &Aftercare are preferred to allow for appropriate staffing. Drop-In attendance will be based on space available. Daily Drop-In charge is paid on day of use. *An After Care (3-5pm) option is also available and requires separate enrollment.

Cavani Quartet Workshop

Cello Boot Camp

Where: Ohio City
Want to advance your cello playing quickly? There's nothing like an intensive 2-day boot camp to do so! Sessions will rotate through technical drills of all sorts: scales, arpeggios, 3rds, 6ths, and bowing exercises, interspersed with audio and videos to increase our understanding of the glorious, vast sound world of the cello. Both days will conclude with cello choir reading sessions. Cello Boot Camp, while challenging, will also offer a great opportunity to bond with fellow cello enthusiasts in a very friendly and supportive environment. Adult students are strongly encouraged. Minimum intermediate skill level. Students should be able to play scales up to 3 sharp and flat keys, two-octave major and minor scales and be acquainted with Thumb Position. About the instructor: Ida Mercer is very excited to be leading this camp. Designated by the Ohio String Teacher Association "Studio Teacher of the Year" in 2002, and a CPAC Creative Workforce Fellow in 2010, Ida is a dedicated cello teacher. Dr. Mercer has maintained an all-ages cello studio at The Music Settlement since 1998. She also serves as Director of Programs for the Cleveland Cello Society and serves on the CWRU Music Department faculty.

J@MS Jazz Camp

Where: University Circle
Polish your musical skills and discover the rich and vital tradition of jazz music in this summer offering of our popular school year program, Jazz at the Music Settlement (J@MS). During Jazz Camp, students will gain knowledge and develop musical skills, perform in ensembles, and take classes in the history of African American music and improvisation. North Coast Winds Chamber Camp

Where: University Circle
Join North Coast Winds, Cleveland's premier professional woodwind quintet, for an interactive and fun week of chamber music! Open to flute, oboe, B-flat clarinet, French horn, and bassoon students who have at least 2 years of experience playing with a band or orchestra. Students will learn and practice the basics of chamber music, rehearse and perform with other campers, sit side-by-side with professional musicians in a chamber music immersion experience, and perform in a recorded concert for family and friends at the end of the week. Other topics will include careers in music, basic ear training, music theory, sight singing, critical listening skills, and more! Camp begins on Sunday June 16th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with a welcome orientation and placements. Skill level: Intermediate to advanced levels. Oboe Boot Camp

Where: University Circle
Looking for a way to super charge your oboe playing? If so, Oboe Boot Camp is the place for you! Come meet other oboists, play in an oboe ensemble, and take a deep dive into all things related to oboe including reeds, practicing, and a little of everything else to help you be more successful. This camp is designed for all beginning and intermediate oboists but will be extremely helpful for oboists who have switched from other instruments. Minimum requirement is the ability to play a B flat major scale and the ability to read/play music from the last half of a first-year band method book. All participants will be given one handmade reed! About the instructor: Marsha Kincade is an oboist and music educator who has taught private lessons and coached double reeds at several high schools and middle schools. She has also taught woodwind methods courses at Bowling Green State University and Case Western Reserve University.

Piano Camp

Where: University Circle
The theme for 2019 Summer Piano Camp is "Composers as Youths...Composers Writing for Youths." Piano Camp will include private lessons, group classes, music theory, studio performance classes, individual practice time, guided practice, and much more. The camp will culminate in an exciting recital Friday evening, June 28, showcasing the students' accomplishments. Piano Camp faculty includes Arthur Kane, Linda Allen, and special guests. Rock & Pop Music Camp

Where: University Circle
The Rock & Pop Music Camp is a modern music experience that encompasses a wide variety of styles, including Classic Rock, Pop, Funk, Reggae, Grunge, Folk, and Blues. Campers will take part in a hands-on creative rock ensemble that will help students take what they have learned and apply it in a group setting. Camp will include band rehearsal, music theory and ear training, group lessons, music history and appreciation, performance preparation, and songwriting. Suzuki Camp

Where: University Circle
Students who are currently studying violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar or piano in the Suzuki Method can join The Music Settlement Suzuki faculty and guest clinicians for a week of instruction, motivation and fun! Campers will participate in group classes and special ensembles during camp session. Each student will receive two, 30-minute private lessons scheduled after camp hours during the week. Daily recitals will showcase our Suzuki faculty and camp students each day at noon. Suzuki Camp begins on Sunday, July 28 at 3pm. Families will get their weekly schedules, meet teachers, and start the fun! The camp culminates with a Grand Finale Concert on Saturday, August 3rd at 10 am. Suzuki Camp - Extended Day (12:30pm - 3pm)

Where: University Circle
During the Full Day Suzuki Camp offering, campers will create cool artwork, write a compositional masterpiece, and/or explore drumming in the afternoons to further enhance the camp experience.* The Suzuki Camp Orchestra provides older Suzuki students with an opportunity to learn alternative styles of orchestral music and to reinforce musical and technical skills. Students must be in Book 2 or above to participate in the orchestra, or at the discretion of the Suzuki Camp Director. *Classes may vary slightly depending on enrollment.

TMS Kids Camp (9am-12:30pm) SESSION I

Led by TMS EC teachers, each week long STEAM camp is designed for young children to explore and engage in an arts & sciences rich environment through hands on exploration, games, outdoor activities and arts and crafts.
