Start your child on the path to lifelong musicianship!
Designed for children ages 4-6, our Intro to Suzuki course is both a parent education and musical enrichment course. This course will answer any questions you have about becoming a Suzuki parent and serves as a prerequisite for Suzuki instruction at TMS.
Intro to Suzuki includes fun musical activities for parents and students, demonstrations of instruments offered in the Suzuki Program, and parent discussions about the Suzuki philosophy. After completion of this course and required observations, students will be assigned to an instructor. Due to the popularity of the program, some students may have to be wait-listed.
Note: For September and October sessions, the first meeting date is an orientation only for parents/guardians. Students will start attending on week two.
Intro to Suzuki is also available privately for students ages 7 - 12, or those unavailable to meet during this class time. For more information about private sessions, please contact Suzuki@TheMusicSettlement.org

Melanie Emig is a Suzuki piano instructor and music educator. Raised in a musical family, she realized at an early age that music was her life's passion. She began studying Suzuki piano at the age of three and continued on to study voice and flute.
A graduate from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in vocal performance, Melanie performed with early music groups Apollo's Fire, Quire Cleveland and with Trinity Cathedral Chamber Choir. In 2018, she was a part of the world premiere of Cenk Ergun's FORMARE performed at the Cleveland Museum of Art. In 2019, she curated her first show entitled "SAMPLES" with the organization Fresh Perspectives.
As an educator, Melanie models her instruction after Dr. Suzuki's belief that we "should strive to deeply instill a beautiful, sensitive heart and splendid ability in children, believing that every child can develop into an adult who has these basic characteristics." She believes in fostering good habits and advocating for healthy, efficient, and intuitive playing.
