Lyric Lab Group Songwriting

Ages: 5 - 12
Session Length: 15 Weeks
Skill Level: Beginner and Up

This fun and creative group class invites young musicians to write their own songs and sing them together in a choir-style setting.

Students begin with lighthearted, playful group songs to build confidence and collaboration, then gradually explore deeper social–emotional themes as they grow more comfortable expressing themselves through music. Depending on age, the class may be structured with or without parent participation. Each semester concludes with a performance showcasing the group’s original songs, and students will also have the opportunity to record their music so they can enjoy and share their creations outside of class.

Age Ranges:

• *Thursdays at 4:00 pm, ages 5 - 9
• Thursdays at 5:00 pm, ages 10 - 12
• Saturdays at 10:00 am, ages 5 - 9
• Saturdays at 11:00 am, ages 10 - 12

*Students enrolled in full-day preschool at The Music Settlement's University Circle campus can be walked over to the Thursday 4:00 pm class. Preschool students can be dismissed for the day from class or returned to their classroom to finish the normal school day.

If this is your first enrollment of the school year in the Center for Music (September – June), a non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of enrollment ($35 for a single registrant, with a cap of $50 per family).

Christian Evans is an educator with 14 years of experience working with children from toddlers to high schoolers. Along with his dedication to caring for and uplifting children, Christian is also a passionate musician. These two interests have led him down a fulfilling and joyful path of sharing the power of music with children through song writing. His program, The Lyric Lab, has allowed young people to discover a new form of self expression, a tool to process emotions, and the confidence to share their art with an audience. The Lyric Lab will be partnering with The Music Settlement for both individual and group song writing classes, rock and pop ensembles, as well as guitar and bass lessons.
