Rock & Pop Band

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and Up

Rock & Pop Band is a modern ensemble that encompasses a wide variety of styles and eras of popular music.

Each semester ends with a high-energy performance of the music worked on in the weekly rehearsals. Students will not only increase their confidence and musicianship, but will also learn some functional information about how rock and pop songs work. Much of the music is learned by ear: students are not required to know how to read music to join, but emphasis will be put on learning to read music and becoming more knowledgeable musicians.

Students will be placed in a group based on their age and experience. Ensembles will rehearse at 12:45 pm and 2:30 pm. If additional students are interested, times may adjust slightly to accommodate three groups.

Prerequisites: Must have your own instrument and be able to tune it. Guitarists (electric guitars preferred) must know open chords. Keyboard players should know major and minor root position chords. Drummers and bass players should know basic grooves.

Students who have previously participated in this ensemble do not need to complete an audition and are welcome to register at this time. Click the "Enroll" button below to proceed.

If this is your first enrollment of the school year in the Center for Music (September – June), a non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of enrollment ($35 for a single registrant, with a cap of $50 per family).

Luke Pernici is a local musician who has played in a variety of bands in and around Cleveland, including ET King and the Determination, Liz Bullock and the Tremonts, GROUP and others. While his primary instrument is guitar, he also plays bass, piano, drums, ukulele, and has been known to sing (sometimes). He has taught a variety of students over the seven years he's been active in the music scene, and utilizes these skills to give students an enjoyable, informative experience. He caters his lessons to the way a student learns best, and tries to indulge their tastes, while also injecting music that he thinks is important.
