Staff Accountant

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The Cleveland Music Settlement (dba The Music Settlement), established in 1912, has a mission to welcome all to our music and arts community to learn, create, inspire and heal. We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support the finance team through a variety of accounting functions. Primary Purpose:

To support the mission of The Music Settlement through the following actions:

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for monthly closing process
  • Provide data and schedules for the annual close and audit processes
  • Assist with conversion to new financial software and other special projects
  • Process customer billing and analyze receivables

Reports to:

Director of Finance

Essential Accounting Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General ledger data entry for daily, monthly and year-end transactions
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation for balance sheet accounts with supporting documentation
  • Participate in the month-end and annual accounting closing process
  • Assist in the annual budgeting process and monthly budget analysis
  • Track various project costs and prepare related reports
  • Assist with system transition to Financial Edge NXT
  • Support management and auditors during the annual audit process
  • Maintain confidentiality to protect the organization and its supporters
  • Prepare monthly billing statements and receivable aging reports
  • Monitor customer accounts and identify delinquent balances
  • Record investment activities for the endowment accounts
  • Track outreach contract revenue and prepare schedules to calculate and record deferred revenue
  • Other duties as assigned

Educational Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent

Experience Requirements:

  • 1-2 years accounting experience
  • Experience in a non-profit organization preferred

Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Good problem-solving and time management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to adapt to various financial and enrollment software packages
  • Maintains strict confidentiality
