Double Bill: Beards / Echos @ BOP STOP

Beards is a song-based band that incorporates elements of free jazz and popular music in a raw, accessible way. The band first formed in the fall of 2010 at Oberlin College and Conservatory. The group quickly established a personal chemistry that resulted in an equally personal sound. Beards is influenced by musical landscapes past and present, but with a healthy rejection of the norm and a general push towards the limits of composition and improvisation. Raw as it is familiar, focused as it is free, this is a song-based band with a new take on creative improvised music.

Echoes is influenced by other groups in the jazz idiom like the Modern Jazz Quartet, Jackie McClean Quartet, and the New Gary Burton Quartet while still contributing their own unique sound through original compositions and refreshing interpretations of jazz standards.
As individuals Echoes includes winners of Downbeat, Essentially Ellington, and Berklee School of Music awards.
