UNION is a flexible roster of composers and performers involved in playing, presenting and advocating for adventurous contemporary music throughout NE Ohio and beyond. Founded in 2014 by a group of students and alumni of the Cleveland Institute of Music, the group aims to:
1. Present new music—via concerts, workshops, and discussions—as an integral part of the fabric of community, encouraging both musical and social dialogue via programs which are accessible to all audiences;
2. Build and sustain collaborations between composers, performers and artists throughout the area interested in contemporary music;
3. Encourage the dissolution of social boundaries which have often kept classically-trained musicians and audiences away from one another in all but specialized "classical" venues.
