BOP STOP
BOP STOP at The Music Settlement is Cleveland's premier listening room: an intimate, acoustically pristine performance venue with sweeping views of Lake Erie.
August 2 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Join New Seasons Productions for their first show in their "Jazz at the Bop" Series! This inaugural concert features Forecast and vocalist Barbara Barrett! Barbara began her musical journey at The Music Settlement as a child and she has a fabulous line of shows brewing for her series. Come on out to undeniably one of Cleveland's best music listening rooms.
Barbara Barrett's soprano-range classical training and her creative styling have been said to put you in the mind of Cassandra Wilson, and legendary jazz diva Sarah Vaughan when she sings the classic jazz standards of the likes of Duke Ellington and Thelonius Monk. But she also easily covers and is influenced by the contemporary music of Jill Scott, Sade, and Oleta Adams, the funk inspired renditions of Chaka Khan, popular music of Nora Jones, Santana, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson; R&B arrangements of The Isley Brothers, Frankie Beverly and Maze, uptempo dance music by The Gap Band, the S.O.S. Band, BB King and select reggae tunes, and even rock music of classic artists such as Fleetwood Mac and The Doors.
Forecast is a Cleveland based contemporary jazz band that performs a musical blend of instrumental jazz, funk, rock, reggae and pop. The band is composed of vibist Lem Adams, saxophonist Riley Richard, keyboardist Alphonso McDuffie, bassist Gary Stevenson, drummer John Turner.
In addition to their regular performance dates the band has opened for Earl Klugh, The Crusaders, Stanley Turrentine, Bob Newhart, Roy Ayers, Jeff Lorber, Angie Bofill, Michael Paulow, Pieces of a Dream, Brian Auger , Bob James, David Garfield just to mention a few. Awards include the 1985 and 1986 Michelob Jazz Search, Best Jazz Fusion Band from the 1993 Midwest urban Music Awards and Best Contemporary Jazz Band from Scene Magazine in 1999. Forecast performed as the official house band of the Cleveland Cavaliers at Gund Arena for the 2001-2002 season.
