Siamese Twins @ BOP STOP

For more than 20 Years Leland Scott Davis and Chris Strollo have performed outward improvised duets as Siamese Twins. The summer of 2015 brings them together again for another unforgettable cycle of high-free liberation voltage music - don't miss it!

Chris Strollo is a Saxophonist, film composer, sound recordist, mulit-instrumentalist and producer known for his work bridging the gap between the physical and electronic nature of sound. Strollo has performed internationally at NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression ) in Paris and held a residency at the Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music (STEIM) in Amsterdam. Modifying Alto saxophone and developing new percussion instruments including The Circumference glass instrument in collaboration with visual artist Robin Stanaway, Strollo has forged new tools in improvisational music. With foundations in the open structures of the free jazz movement , electronic soundscapes and studies in West African drumming and Indian Carnatic music, his far reaching melodic travels will leave any listener questioning the sound of yesterday and tomorrow.

Leland Scott Davis is a drummer, composer, and bandleader. After gigging and recording (Cadence Jazz) with Ernie Krivda's Quartet during 1989-1991 Davis started composing for a myriad of simultaneous ensembles in trio, acoustic and electric quartets, quintet and the 10 piece Myth Spirit Orchestra. These ensembles performed and were recorded at many venues in and around Cleveland/New York/Pittsburgh/Buffalo/Boston including the now defunct Speak in Tongues in Cleveland courtesy of concert presenter Ralph Hausmann. During this time of intense creativity Davis also wrote up his Science of Intuitive Generating Structures for Improvisation which also includes his invention of The Universal Tempo Scale and its demonstration through years of theory and practice. All during this time the electronic saxophone and drum duet music of the Siamese Twins flourished, whether or not the pre iphone crazed internet society knew. Many meetings with world class musicians ensued (Splatter Trio, Larry Ochs, Rob Brown, LaDonna Smith, Kalle Larre, Elliot Sharp (w/ Twins)). By 2001 Davis' 7 cd's of compositions by various ensembles was dedicated to the Weslyan University Music Library Archives for future historians by none other than Anthony Braxton himself. Davis then went on hiatus to the woods of Vermont to clear the conceptual mind of Urban Jazz Rhetoric and 'professionalism' to more clearly continue to hear his own voice and to study in depth the virtuosic and ancient healing arts/trance tradition of Arabic/Middle Eastern frame drumming, Turkish doumbek performance, African Djembe as well as the art of East Indian Tabla Drumming. Davis also through practice intensified and focused his lifelong love of visual art and honed his own style of abstract painting to what it is today. Davis recorded his all percussion CD Rhythm Paintings during this time as well as the CD Drummer's House. Important teachers include drummers Paul Samuels, Val Kent, Sayon Camara, Yaya Diallo, Todd Roach, Glen Velez, Jamey Haddad, Ates Altiok, James Feist, Jerry Leake and others.
