Tonight we present a double bill with Hayden Arp and Friends and Echoes.
The ensemble Hayden Arp and Friends formed in the Fall of 2015 to perform some of Hayden's most recent compositions. It is comprised of Hayden Arp (voice + guitar), Margaret McCarthy (voice+electronics), Mobey Irizarry Lambright (violin), Delaney Meyes (violin), and Raffi Boden (cello), all students at the Oberlin Conservatory. They will be touring the midwest in March 2016.
Hayden Arp toured across the US and has released a number of singles as a solo artist. He was born outside of Washington DC, and is studying electronic music composition at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. In the spring of 2016 he will be releasing his first solo EP, “For Gabriel,” a collection of four songs about God or falling or something between the two. He also is working on a full-length LP with Griffin Jennings, another Oberlin musician, which will be released in the Fall of 2016.

Echoes is a contemporary jazz ensemble that formed in January 2014 in Oberlin Conservatory’s jazz department. Over the past two years, they have developed a cohesive and unique band sound through both original compositions and refreshing interpretations of jazz standards. While in school, they have also established themselves as a group through gigging, recording, and broadcasting in the Cleveland area. Recently, Echoes has expanded their domestic presence by performing and working outside of the greater Cleveland area. They began the summer of 2015 by completing a two-week residency at the renowned Avaloch Farm Music Institute in New Hampshire, an accomplishment made more significant by the fact that they were the youngest group of musicians ever selected to participate in the residency. During their time at Avaloch, the group composed and arranged original music, and made connections with the other chamber ensembles participating in the program. Following the residency, they solidified this new music over a month-long tour down the east coast and through the Midwest, which included stops in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, D.C., Cleveland, and Chicago. They were fortunate to perform at major venues throughout the tour, such as Chris’s Jazz Club, The Lilypad, Nighttown, ShapeShifter Labs, Transistor, Bloombars, and the Tri-C Jazz Festival, in addition to working with various schools as part of a larger Oberlin outreach initiative. Echoes continues to perform around Oberlin and the greater Cleveland area, and plans to return to Avaloch and perform in Europe in the summer of 2016.
