Chris Pitsiokos is an exciting young saxophonist, composer, and improviser from New York City. His music combines the intensity and immediacy of no wave and noise with the lyricism and forward propulsion of jazz and the abstract detail of contemporary classical composers Iannis Xenakis, Brian Ferneyhough, and Helmut Lachenmann. Recent/current collaborators include Lydia Lunch, Tyshawn Sorey, Peter Evans, Kevin Shea, Henry Kaiser, Marc Edwards, Brandon Seabrook and Weasel Walter. Chris has performed throughout Europe, Japan, Australia, and the US. In addition to performing and composing music, Chris runs his own record label, Eleatic records, curates the Gadfly Series at New York venue Spectrum, and programs a radio show at WKCR-FM. The Pitsiokos Quartet also includes guitarist Andrew Smiley and drummer Jason Nazary (both from the free-jazz-rock quartet Little Women, who had two fantastic albums on the Aum Fidelity label) and bassist Henry Fraser.
Mike Sopko and Joe Tomino will open for the Chris Pitsiokos Quartet. Although a native son of Cleveland – and current resident – guitarist Mike Sopko made a huge splash in the Bay-Area when he lived there for 13 years, taking part in some of the area's most exciting improvised projects.
Sopko has played and recorded with such musicians as Bill Laswell, Mike Watt, Dosh, Thomas Pridgen, Tyshawn Sorey, Simon Lott, Jamie Saft and more. A founding member of the bands 'Sopko/Laswell/Pridgen' 'Glimpse Trio' 'Big Band' 'Cascading Liquid Rainbows' 'The Golden Measure' All bands feature original compositions by Sopko.
