We welcome you to join us for an evening of jazz featuring small combos and a large ensemble from Cleveland State University! The bands will perform original arrangements as well as plenty of jazz standards.
The bands are led under the direction of:
John Perrine: John has premiered works by Kari Juusela, Aaron Johnson and William Price. Perrine holds a doctorate from Louisiana State University, a masters from Northwestern University, and a BME from Stetson University. His teachers include James Bishop, Fred Hemke, Jonathon Helton and Griffin Campbell. He has studied jazz with Harold Blanchard, Don Owens, Tony Garcia and Michael Koucour. Recently, Perrine has performed the Bolcom Concert Suite with the Volga Band (Saratov, Russia). Perrine also gave master classes at the Saratov Conservatory and the Rostov On-Don Conservatory and well as at Moscow State University for Culture and Arts where he has been invited back to perform the Ingolf Dahl Saxophone Concerto. In addition to work abroad Perrine has also recently given live broadcast recitals with faculty members Eric Ziolek, Rock Wehrmann and Mark DeMio on WCLV in Cleveland, Ohio and performed with his own jazz quartet at Night Town (Cleveland Heights) and The Bop Stop (Cleveland, Ohio.) He is a founding member of the Red Stick Saxophone Quartet. The quartet has won national prizes in the MTNA and Fischoff chamber music competitions. Perrine's composition "Vonnegut: Suite for Saxophone Quartet" was premiered at the North American Saxophone Alliance International Convention in Columbia, South Carolina by the Red Stick Saxophone Quartet.
Joe Miller: From Jazz to R&B to Broadway to Rock to Hip Hop, Joe is one of the most sought-after trumpet players in the area. Trained in classical music as well as Jazz, he has toured and performed extensively with international, regional and local artists. Mr. Miller was a member of the Grammy-nominated Acid/Groove/Jazz group, Liquid Soul, playing with internationally known DJs, including DJ Logic. His recording credits are many and varied, including Kenny Anderson and the late Gerald Levert. Joe toured with Bobby Caldwell and has played lead and solo trumpet for Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Frankie Valli, The Funk Brothers and many others and has been a featured soloist at the TriC JazzFest and with The Contemporary Youth Orchestra. A Cleveland State University alum and former student of Charles Couch and Kenny Davis, Joe currently holds the lead trumpet chair at Playhouse Square and is a featured soloist with the Bill Ransom Quintet and “Jazz Meets Hip Hop,” and performs with Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Paul Ferguson’s Jazz Orchestra.
Alfredo Guerrieri: Alfredo is heavily involved in the Cleveland music scene working with the following artists:
Chris Hatton and the Italian Sound Machine, Dan Wilson. Levi Riggs, Chad Szeliga (Breaking Benjamin, Black Label Society), The Sellouts, Samantha Fitzpatrick Band, Replife, Sunshine Daydream, We The People, Joe McBride, The Shizz, Audible Distraction, Keith McKelley Project, Mojo Generations Big Band, The Speedbumps.
