November 12 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Cleveland cellist, Catherine Clyatt Schroth, celebrates the release of her first album, “Songs for My Son” with this special one-time concert. “Songs for My Son” is a collection of classical standards, folk tunes, hymns, and original music. The selections on the album were inspired by Catherine’s love for her son, her musical childhood, and her Kansas roots. Julliard composer, Evan Fein, provides several fresh new pieces and arrangements for this album, including “Kansas Sky,” a violin and cello duo which will premiere at this event. Catherine will also be joined by pianist Ron Palka (Cleveland) and violinist, Mary Price (Oberlin).
Catherine is an accomplished cellist, music therapist, and music educator. She was the youngest person to be awarded a position in the Wichita Symphony (Kansas) and has also played with CityMusic Cleveland. As a soloist and chamber musician, Catherine has performed throughout the United States and in Europe. She received her bachelors and masters of music degrees in Cello Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and later became a board-certified music therapist, specializing in working with pre-school children and in hospice. An avid educator, Catherine has taught for the SATO Center for Suzuki Studies, the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Program, Credo Summer Chamber Music Program, the Oberlin Community Music School, and Chamber Music at the Barn.
