We welcome you to join us as cellist, John Gibbon, and pianist, HyunSoo Kim, collaborate for an evening of accompanied cello. This event is FREE but donations are greatly appreciated at the door. The program will include:
John Gibbon began playing the cello in 3rd grade at Onaway Elementary School in Shaker Heights and has continued to study and play throughout his life. In 2010, while still practicing law in Cleveland, he received a Diploma in Cello Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. His teachers have included Thomas Mansbacher (Cleveland Orchestra), Amir Eldan (Oberlin Conservatory) and Merry Peckham (Cavani String Quartet). Now retired, John lives in Cleveland Heights and is a member of the Cleveland Music Settlement Board of Directors.
Pianist Hyun Soo Kim has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and South Korea. A much sought-after collaborative artist, Mr. Kim has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium, Merkin Hall in NYC, Chicago Cultural Center, Dallas City Performance Hall, Rolston Hall at Banff Centre, Auer Hall at Indiana University, Olin Hall at Bard College, Kumho Arts Hall, and Seoul Arts Center. He is currently a member of the Collaborative Piano Staff at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Kent State University. He is the admissions director at ENCORE Chamber Music and serves as a collaborative piano faculty.
