February 3 from 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Driving grooves, thumping bass, colorful harmony, unleashed melody - the piano trio is jazz at its essence. This performance by The Ben Geyer Trio, featuring Peter Dominguez on bass and Zaire Darden on drums, will be Geyer's first Cleveland show since joining the faculty at Oberlin Conservatory. Expect to hear original modern compositions and interpretations of popular music. You’ll tap your foot to the beat, soak in the soundscape, and get in touch with your humanity; you’ll hear sounds so fresh that even the musicians don't anticipate them.
Bio:
Pianist Ben Geyer has performed all over the world, including two years on the New York City jazz scene and a tour of China. His debut album of original compositions, The Narrative, was called "colorful, intriguing, and well worth hearing" but Scott Yanow of Los Angeles Jazz Scene. Geyer has taught music theory and aural skills at Oberlin Conservatory since 2014 and earned his Ph.D. in Music Theory at the University of Kentucky in 2016.
