Show Description: Rhythms and Rituals is a program of recently written music by living composers which explores the varied sounds of interesting colors, driving rhythms, and highlights virtuosic playing. From the soaring melodies and imitation bird calls in Brouwer's "Lonely Lake," to the beautifully haunting tone of the alto flute in Marc Satterwhite's "Imagined Rituals," this program has something for every music lover. Several of the composers will be in attendance.

Ensemble Bio: In 2011, the Blue Streak Ensemble was founded by Margaret Brouwer to launch a summer concert series along the shores of Lake Erie. Since then, we have given enormously successful concerts in New York City on the Cutting Edge Concert Series at Symphony Space and other locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as on various tours throughout Virginia, Wisconsin, and Ohio. Featuring Brouwer’s music and the music of other fine living composers, BSE is dedicated to presenting concerts with an eclectic array of the latest, most interesting, expressive, and exciting new music. In some select concerts, Blue Streak also performs repertoire that spans 400 years, juxtaposing the old and the new. In these concerts, their mission is to show the value of the connection between the rich music of the past and recently written new music. The listener is pulled along through a varied and changing palette of traditional and progressive sounds in a compelling stream. Blue Streak Ensemble was featured on the 2014 Naxos recording “Shattered,” an album of Brouwer’s chamber music.
