Duende is an exciting duo which combines the sounds of classical guitar and saxophone. A collaboration between saxophonist Ethan Miller and guitarist Krystin O’Mara, Duende represents a fresh, new direction in contemporary classical music.
Their musical philosophy is derived from traditional Flamenco terminology in which “duende” is defined as having soul, a heightened state of emotion, and authenticity.
Duende performs a mixture of traditional classical repertoire, contemporary compositions, and works with Spanish, flamenco, jazz, Brazilian, and world music influences. This vibrant variety and creative programming allows Duende to perform highly entertaining, dynamic performances with a focus on audience accessible repertoire.
Duende’s most recent release, “Travel Notebook”, is available on the Centaur Records label.
Ethan Miller
By combining his talents as a soloist, recitalist, and orchestral saxophonist across the classical, jazz, and popular music genres, Ethan Miller is redefining the modern image of saxophone and its role within contemporary classical music. His performances have received international acclaim for their expressive timbre, attention to stylistic detail, and adeptness across all members of the saxophone family, making him an in-demand artist for premiere performances of contemporary works. Premiers include “Images for Flute, Saxophone & Piano" (Frederick Koch), "Pegasus and Pan” (Thomas Janson), and “The Peacemakers" (Karl Jenkins). As a Conn-Selmer/Selmer Paris Performing Artist, he frequently appears as a guest artist and masterclass clinician throughout the Midwest, including the annual Honors Jazz Festival at Lakeland Community College (Kirtland, Ohio). Mr. Miller serves on the faculties of Kent State University’s Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and Regional Campuses, the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music, and Ashland University. He has been awarded performance degrees with honors from the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music (B.M.) and Kent State University (M.M). Mr. Miller plays Selmer saxophones.
