Baldwin Wallace Voice and Opera: Trouble In A Quiet Place @ BOP STOP

May 2 from 8:00pm - 9:30pm

Baldwin Wallace Voice and Opera: Trouble In A Quiet Place @ BOP STOP

The senior Voice and Opera Workshop class at Baldwin Wallace invites you to a new adaptation of Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti and A Quiet Place.

Trouble in Tahiti is a one-act opera, composed in the early 1950’s. It paints a picture of a failing nuclear family and the pitfalls of The American Dream. The music is ripe with 20th century harmonic language as well as jazz influences.

A Quiet Place is “Tahiti’s” sequel, composed 30 years later and takes place after Dinah’s tragic death. It explores the idea that even in a severely dysfunctional family, trauma can unlock the potential to heal existing wounds. Bernstein makes use of serialism in his musical and rhythmic language.

We’ve pared these two works down to their most basic and important and combined them into one work that best showcases our senior class.
