Tonight Carol Leslie makes her BOP STOP debut!
Carol Leslie, jazz vocalist, is NE Ohio’s Scottish import from Edinburgh, Scotland. Her media introduction came when, chosen out of 2,500 auditionees, she represented Scotland in the British ITV live talent show, “Rising Stars,” broadcast across Europe and the UK. Her introduction to BBC Radio on “Debut,” was met with acclaim, propelling her to perform in cabaret venues in the UK. For several years, she enjoyed a myriad of extra roles on British SOAPs! Since then, she has also performed in Australia, Norway, Bermuda and the USA, including an on-air interview with Cleveland’s own, Dee Perry of WCPN.
After taking a hiatus from music, she is now back, better than ever, with a new repertoire to pay homage to the music greats: Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Cleo Laine, fellow Scots Annie Ross and Annie Lennox, Diane Schuur, Diana Krall, Lennon & McCartney, Harry Connick Jr, Ray Charles, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Mel Tormé, Roberta Flack and Layla Hathaway. Carol has performed throughout Cleveland at conventions, black tie events, and the jazz restaurant circuit, where she worked with exceptional musicians: Neal Creque, Mike Petrone, Cliff Habian, Dan Maier, Leo Coach, Dewey Jeffreys, Brad Bolton, Roy King, Aidan Plank, Skeets Ross, Gary Aprile, the Nuff Rey Orchestra, and Rich Endress Little Big Band. For this debut at Bop Stop, she is performing with international/local jazz pianist, composer and educator, Drene Ivy, with educator, stellar jazz bassist, Glenn Holmes, (both on faculty at the Music Settlement), and the hip rhythm lady herself, Sunny Tabler, on drums – Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 7pm.
From a musical family, Carol was raised to appreciate, and be influenced by, the musical contributions of Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr, Peggy Lee, Billie Holliday, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Nina Simone, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Lena Horne. Each has fueled Carol’s love of the American Song Book!
