Bob Niederitter Trio Featuring Tony Monaco @ BOP STOP

September 29 from 8:00pm - 11:00pm

Bob Niederitter Trio Featuring Tony Monaco @ BOP STOP

Bob Niederriter Trio Featuring:

  • Bob Niederriter, Guitar
  • Tony Monaco, Organ
  • Val Kent, Drums

Bob Niederriter was strongly influenced by Wes Montgomery's thumb technique, his tone and his compositional style. As a guitar stylist, Bob Niederriter has shunned the temptations of gratuitous speed and technique for a more considered and mature approach, particularly with respect to soloing . His lines are thoughtfully conceived and cleanly executed statements which are more reflective of melodic acuity than empty dexterity. Niederriter's most deeply felt musical impulses, however, are expressed in his composing and arranging . He has absorbed the music of the modern jazz masters , most notably Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk, whose dissonances and use of space and distended rhythm captivated him.

At the New School, Niederriter studied and played under Ed Neumeister and Bill Kirschner as well as Reggie Workman, Junior Mance, Arnie Lawrence and Jim Hall. Since leaving the New School Niederriter has continued to compose and perform, recently completing his first recording and performing regularly in Cleveland with drummer Greg Bandy.

Niederriter will be performing alongside organist Tony Monaco! Tony Monaco may be the best organ player you have yet to hear of flying stealth while playing arguably some of the hottest B-3 around. Mentored by the legendary Jimmy Smith in what is considered the more classic style, Monaco does not swing, smolder or smoke. "Tony Monaco burns is this most fitting!" CriticalJazz Review2012. Tony Monaco began his keyboard life at age eight. When he was twelve, his destiny as a jazz organist was sealed when he first heard Jimmy Smith. An enthusiastic student, Tony began working in Jazz clubs as a teenager in his native Columbus, Ohio, guided by local organ gurus Hank Marr and Don Patterson. Four years later, Jimmy Smith invited Tony to come play at his club in California, a peak lifetime experience for Tony.

Val Kent will be performing on drums. Val has backed numerous artists including Thelonius Monk sideman Charlie Rouse, singer Johnny Hartman, saxophone great and composer Benny Golson, Ray Charles' sideman Fathead Newman, and others.
