This Fall, "Eric Seddon's Hot Club Live Performance and History Series" occurs every other Wednesday in September through November. Each event focuses on a different innovator in jazz clarinet. Feel free to purchase tickets to each individual concert or buy a ticket to the entire series for some great savings!
Our third installment focuses on the one and only, Benny Goodman!
This is a unique concert discussing Benny Goodman’s social history—including excerpts from his autobiography. We’ll discuss Franz Schoepp and Jimmie Noone’s influence, where he expanded their ideas or made them his own, and his tenacity for a true jazz career rather than giving in to the “sweet music” tendencies in NY at the time. Though he was a wild commercial success, that success was predicated upon music over commercialism. Mention DownBeat’s. This concert will focus on the revolutionary aspect of the Benny Goodman quartet and sextet upon civil rights, and the role of Jewish music in his playing.
