November 15 from 7:00pm - 9:30pm
This Fall, "Eric Seddon's Hot Club Live Performance and History Series" occurs every other Wednesday in September through November. Each event focuses on a different innovator in jazz clarinet. Feel free to purchase tickets to each individual concert or buy a ticket to the entire series for some great savings!
Our fifth concert in this series centers around Acker Bilk!
Just as the clarinet was falling out of favor with modern jazz writers and audiences, there was a major Trad Jazz revival booming abroad. This was spurred in part by Sidney Bechet in Paris, but also by the touring of George Lewis’s Ragtime Band, who had a profound influence on the British Trad scene and beyond (including The Beatles through a young Ringo Starr). This concert will focus on music of Acker Bilk, the highly creative and driven English clarinetist who wrote chart topping hit tunes, was double billed (equally) with the Beatles as late as 1963, set the template for the British Invasion by doing a tour of duty in Hamburg, making a zany movie, and writing pop hits. Join us for a unique experience on this side of the pond, and a chance to hear, live, many tunes that aren’t heard often in the USA!
