Close Encounters Chamber Music: Rhythms, Rhymes and the Kitchen Sink @ BOP STOP

January 21 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm

Close Encounters Chamber Music: Rhythms, Rhymes and the Kitchen Sink @ BOP STOP

Now in its 12th year, the Heights Arts Close Encounters series presents chamber music as it was meant to be—up close and personal, in stately residences and unique venues throughout Cleveland.

This afternoon's program entitled Rhythms, Rhymes and the Kitchen Sink features:

  • Robert Walters, English horn
  • Drew Pattison, bassoon
  • Edward “Teddy” Niedermaier, piano

It’s a little-known fact that The Cleveland Orchestra’s Principal English Horn player is also a published poet. Robert Walters shares the Bop Stop stage with Oberlin College’s newest bassoon faculty, Drew Pattison—a graduate of the prestigious Colburn School in Los Angeles—and composer/pianist Teddy Niedermaier—on faculty at Chicago’s Roosevelt University—in a unique program of music and original poetry. The musical journey includes a new trio composed by Teddy in 2016, two rarely-heard romances by Elgar and Sibelius, and Debussy’s thrilling “Rapsodie.”

PROGRAM

  • Jean Sibelius Romance, Opus 24, No. 9 (1903)
  • Claude Debussy Rapsodie (1910)
  • Henrik Andriessen Variations on a theme by Haydn for English horn and piano (1968)
  • Henri Dutilleux Sarabande et Cortege (1942)
  • Edward Elgar Romance, Op. 62 for bassoon and piano (1910)
  • Edward Niedermaier -Trio for English horn, bassoon and piano (2016)
