What began as an ensemble class at Vance Studios in Lakewood has turned into one of the hottest jazz groups in the North East Ohio. Ernie Krivda, Tenor Sax Legend, Recording Artist and Cleveland Arts Prize winner has put together a group of prodigious young Jazz players that play with great passion and a maturity well beyond their years.
"I love to bathe in the energy and musicality these young cats like Tim and Graeham bring to the band stand. Hearing Tim made me think of the great Bill DeArango (whom I had the privilege of playing with) and Graeham has a strength and musicality with the bass that is just jaw dropping. It is even more stunning when you realize they are 15 and 16 years old. Ricky Exton (another former student) bridges the years between me and is the perfect blend of experience and questing fire needed for this situation. RIcky who is also the drummer in my Fat Tuesday Big Band is IMO the perhaps the most versatile Jazz Drummer on the Cleveland scene. He brings to mind a Shelly Manne or his old drum mentor the late Bob McKee.
