John "JSaxx" Watkins returns to the BOP STOP to lead his own band in two high energy performances (5pm and 7:30pm).
Jazz Musician John “JSaxx” Watkins, born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, developed his love for music at the early age of 8 listening to his father Rev. John C. Watkins, his uncle Lamar Gaines and his grandfather Charles Pace. Following in his family’s footsteps, JSaxx picked up the saxophone and never put it down. Enrolling into the Cleveland School of Arts allowed JSaxx to expand his knowledge of wind instruments as well as music theory and music production.
"JSaxx" Watkins plays the Alto, Tenor & Soprano saxophone. His music infuses blues, gospel and hip-hop elements into a refreshingly unique style creating the extraordinary experience of Mr. John "JSaxx" Watkins. His artistry is showcased in performances & recording sessions with an assortment of diverse performers. His compositions emulate legendary jazz artists such as John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Cannonball Adderley, and Miles Davis and continue to follow in the tradition of Gerald Albright, Kenny Garrett, Warren Hill, and Mike Phelps.
JSaxx has shared the stage with numerous artists such as the Whispers, GC Cameron, and Johnathan Butler, Frank McComb, Cruz (Rude Boys), Lil G (Silk) and the toured with the legendary Temptations. He has also performed at the Black Heritage Festival in Kentucky and a musical production play starring movie actor Leon. He has been featured several times on FOX8 morning show and WKYC Channel 3. In April 2017 McDonalds featured JSaxx on the Rock Box McDonalds Commercial. JSaxx is being endorsed by Dakota Sax Saxophone, Silverstein, Theo Wanne and Legere Reeds. John “JSaxx” Watkins debut Jazz single release “In My Soul” is currently being aired on 107.3 FM the Wave Radio Station. He also recently was featured in an upcoming film with Matthew Mcconaughey.
When not on tour, you can catch JSaxx regularly performing to packed houses at Swerve Grille, Keavante Jazz Lounge, Fredrick’s and Creo’s. You can catch JSaxx in various upcoming shows, events, and concerts in Cleveland, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Florida and Chicago.
