Oberlin’s Performance and Improvisation Ensembles provide an opportunity for students to enrich their existing musical vocabularies and skills through practical exploration of many different world musics and improvisation across a range of genres and styles. Emphasis is placed on transcription and creating a means of adaptation to the student’s primary (western) instrument.
The ensembles performing tonight have been coached by legendary percussionist, Jamey Haddad and multiple Grammy Award winner, trombonist, Jay Ashby.
