The Offbeat Song Project Presents: A History of Lieder in 7 Composers
Join us for an evening of German art song – we’re starting at the very beginning of the tradition and tracing its evolution all the way to the early 1900s. Now we can’t promise that you’ll walk away an expert on the German art song tradition, but you will definitely hear some great music.
On this program you will hear everything from simply gorgeous love songs, to a song where a shepherd panics because his wife is having twins, to the height of teenage hormonal outbursts, and more!
Since we are trying to cover a huge amount of history in a short concert, we will do this program in two parts. The first part will feature one song from each of our featured composers. At the intermission, the audience will help us tailor the second half to their interests! Whichever composer you enjoyed the most, you will get to hear more from in the second half.
The music is all sung in German, but for those of you brushing up on your Deutsch, there will be supertitles.
