February 11 from 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Join us for a mini college jazz fest featuring three of the most exciting programs in the region: Kent State, led by Bobby Selvaggio, Cleveland State, led by John Perrine, Joseph Miller, and Alfredo Guerrieri, and Case Western Reserve, led by Paul Ferguson. An exciting evening of jazz featuring our future stars! The evening will feature a mixture of big bands and small combos.
The Kent State University Jazz Studies Program fosters a “Real World” atmosphere, promoting the development of fundamental skills in jazz. Through our jazz curriculum and ensemble performance, students are provided the opportunity to improve individual musicianship, create a personal voice, learn from and be inspired by the rich history, and understand the evolutionary process and modern trends of jazz. They become musical leaders and positive contributors to the Kent State University experience.
The Case Jazz Ensemble is a 17 piece group led by Paul Ferguson who is also Artistic Director of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. We perform student works and a variety of jazz spanning the last century.
The CSU Jazz and Commercial Music Program under the direction of John Perrine features Big Band led by John Perrine, Jazz Combos under the direction of Joe Miller and Alredo Guerrieri, Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Reggie Bowens and two rock bands under the direction of Chris Vance. Through these varied ensembles students are able go explore a multitude of commercial musics. In addition to these fine faculty we also have Bill Ransom teaching Drumset, Rock Wehrmann teaching piano and Bob Fraser teaching guitar.
This event is free but there is a $10 suggested donation
