Musical Mix and Mingle Summer Chamber Music Course with the Cavani String Quartet

Join us online this summer for a four-part seminar series on collaboration, open to musicians of all ages and skill levels.
This four-part seminar is based on the Cavani String Quartet’s soon-to-be published book, The Art of Collaboration: A Creative Resource for Chamber Music Rehearsal Techniques and Musical Team Building (D. Cotter-Lockard, A. Fullard, co-authors). Each session will be led by a different Quartet member, and the Quartet will be on hand to demonstrate and illuminate points.
Topics will include:
- Ready, Set, Play!
Individual preparation and practice techniques: a simple and organized approach to preparation for your first rehearsal! - Have Fun with Your Score
Understanding how your part relates to the others. We will explore form and structure, and even listen to some of our favorite recordings! - Exploring the Composer’s World
We will take a close look at the composer from the perspective of Visual Art, Literature, Science, Political and Social movements relating to the generation or time period in which they lived. - Collaboration Basics
Guidance on how to communicate with your ensemble members in a variety of positive and supportive ways, by implementing rehearsal technique problem solvers. Create a working atmosphere for your groups which enables productivity and inspiring dialogue. Featuring a Cavani open rehearsal demonstration
Participants must have the following technological capabilities:
- A laptop, tablet, or desktop that has a reliable internet connection (ethernet connection recommended)
- Access to the video platform Zoom (Camp Director will specify if other platforms are necessary prior to the start of camp.)
This camp is open to musicians of all ages and skill level, though it is recommended for ages 12 - adult. All instrumentalists are welcome to participate.
