We hope you will join us for our next performance in the Lift Their Voices concert series presented by our friends at Roots of American Music. Tickets to attend this concert in person are $15 each. This event will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP's Facebook page at showtime. Accessing the stream is free but donations are much appreciated and can be made at www.givebutter.com/LiftTheirVoices
Tonight's show features the talented vocalist and writer Kari Rutushin. Joining her will be Roots of American Music string band artists Ray DeForest, Jack DiAlesandro and Kevin Richards. Our topic will be the story of the proud immigrant populations that risked their lives and worked under ground to build the subway systems in 1900. Kari and her Stompers will feature music in the prewar style: acoustic blues, jazz, rags, and stomps.
Lift Their Voices” is a community program to expand awareness of the artistic and societal innovations made by historical figures from marginalized communities whose contributions are too often underappreciated. This monthly Roots of American Music concert series gives a voice to those marginalized people who did not have a voice.
