Robert McAllister: A Reflection of a Personal and Professional Journey

Join us on November 3rd as we welcome Robert McAllister, former Executive Director of TMS from 1994 to 2001, for an in-depth conversation as he shares over 34 years of experience in community-focused programming and curriculum.

Special guest Robert McAllister returns to Northeast Ohio and The Music Settlement to reflect on his experiences at the three main institutions he served in his career: Cleveland Institute of Music, The Music Settlement, and Colburn in Los Angeles, CA.

Mr. McAllister will discuss his vision of community arts, his past approaches based on the different institutions he served, and a philosophy of providing high quality opportunities to all those in the community, regardless of background. Now retired and living in Cincinnati, Mr. McAllister will also discuss his current desire to encourage students studying music to be open minded and think creatively about opportunities within the field of music.

Bio: Robert McAllister, served as Dean of the Community School of Performing Arts from 2006 to 2018 having brought more than 34 years of expertise in administration, teaching, and performance to Colburn's community-focused programming and curriculum. Mr. McAllister was President and CEO of the Peak Association of the Arts in Boulder, Colorado, from 2001 to 2003, and Executive Director of The Cleveland Music School Settlement from 1994 to 2001. Prior to that appointment, he was the Associate Dean and Registrar at the Cleveland Institute of Music from 1986 to 1994.
