On Thursday, April 20, 2023, the Bop Stop at the Music Settlement will present the Youngstown State University Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Quartet beginning at 7:00 p.m. The YSU groups will feature the music of second-year graduate student guitarist/composer Chandler Carpenter. The two sets of music are in partial fulfillment of the Master of Music in Jazz Studies degree, and the evening will be recorded for a live album.
Tickets to attend this concert are $15 each. This event will also be livestreamed on BOP STOP's Facebook page at showtime. Accessing the stream is free but donations are encouraged and directly support the band. Jazz guitarist/composer Chandler Carpenter from Brunswick, Ohio is a graduate teaching assistant in the Jazz Area at the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Akron where he studied with Jack Schantz, Dean Newton, and YSU alumnus Chris Coles. Currently, Carpenter studies with Dr. Francois Fowler and Dr. David Morgan as he pursues a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies at YSU.
