Join Cleveland native Joe Wingenfeld for a fresh take on jazz classics from the 1940s-1960s supported by the talented Pittsburgh native Mark Strickland on guitar and Theron Brown on piano. Joe brings a creative energy to the jazz clarinet tackling pieces both common and uncommon to the instrument. He tastefully weaves in a highly sophisticated and melodic tenor saxophone styling to round out the musical experience.
Tickets to attend this show are $15 each. This event will also be livestreamed on BOP STOP's Facebook page at showtime. Hailing from Lakewood, OH Joe Wingenfeld has been playing music for over 25 years beginning with clarinet and picking up the tenor saxophone soon after. He has played in various Jazz Ensembles including the Cleveland Music Settlement Jazz Ensemble lead by Paul Ferguson and the Miami University Jazz Ensemble. He continued his music training at Miami University pursuing a minor in music performance on clarinet.
Joe relocated to Pittsburgh 10 years ago and is an active part of the local jazz scene playing regularly with talented musicians such as Mark Strickland, Antonio Croes, Paul Thompson, Chris McGraw, Ken Karsh, and Jessica Lee, to name a few. While Joe has previously played at the Bop Stop with the Cleveland Music Settlement Jazz Ensemble this will be his debut performance leading his own group.
Mark Strickland is one of Pittsburgh's premiere jazz guitarists joining the local scene starting in the late 60s at famous clubs such as the Hurricane Club and the Crawford Grill located in the Hill District.
Throughout his lengthy career he has had the great fortune to play with many of the jazz greats including Grady Tate, Gerald Wilson, Gene Ludwig, Pete Henderson, Roger Humphries, Spenser Bey, Rabbit Barnes, Dwayne Dolphin, and vocalists Tania Grubbs, Etta Cox, and Judi Figel, to name a few. He has also recorded with Michele Bensen, Jessica Lee, Gene Ludwig, and Eddie Manion and has a long history of producing and recording numerous upcoming and established musicians in his recording studio.
Mark maintains a strong presence in the Pittsburgh jazz scene and is currently a professor of music at the University of Pittsburgh. Mark has made several appearances at Cleveland's Nighttown Jazz club and will be making his debut at the Bob Stop.
Born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio, Theron Brown currently resides in Akron, Ohio, where he is the Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Akron, artist coordinator for Curated Storefront Artist Residency Program at I Promise School, and the founder and artistic director of the Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival which takes place annually in Akron, Ohio’s downtown historic district. You can see him regularly performing at many jazz clubs and theaters in northeast Ohio. Theron is immensely involved in promoting the arts scene in Ohio.Back to Calendar
